BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS
Why a body composition analysis vs the scale?
The scale provides one number—your total weight. It does not tell you the amount of lean mass, body fat and water volume present in your body. Many athletes have a higher *body mass index (BMI) due to higher amount of muscle mass, bone and water volume present in their body. A bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) provides an accurate description of what the breakdown of your weight is which can play a significant role in sport performance, injury recovery and long-term health outcomes. The BIA will also help provide information on basal metabolic rate (BMR). BMR is the amount of calories your body burns while performing basic life-sustaining functions like breathing, growing hair, digesting food, and keeping your heart beating etc.
*What is BMI? BMI is a person's weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters.
What can you expect doing a body composition analysis test?
At Taylor Nutrition, we use an InBody 270 body composition analyzer. Safe, low-level currents are sent through the body through the hand and foot electrodes. You will not feel anything throughout this process. Within about 15 seconds, the analyzer measures your weight, skeletal muscle mass and body fat. Each test will provide you with an in-depth full page print-out that outlines the following:
Total Body Water
Lean Body Mass
Muscle and Skeletal Mass
Fat Mass
Body Fat Percentage
Segmented Lean Analysis per Limb and Body
How do I interpret my results?
Upon request, our Performance Dietitians will review and interpret the results with you. It is mandatory to do a body composition analysis with interpretation the first time this is done. We will further educate you on how to use this information to help support your sport performance and/or health goals.
